Minecraft: Had to start building a new Castle this weekend

I decided to start building a larger structure in the mountainous regions away from our SMP town.  This is what started to take shape.

I’m definitely more of a builder of utility than outside appearance. 

The large room on the lower left will be a large farm which will have trees, melons, pumpkins and reeds.  I will probably create another room that does cactus by itself though as I can funnel the drops into the big room.  If there is room I may also try to get wheat in there as well.  I will use pistons to harvest the reeds, melons and pumpkins as it can be done fairly easily.  I have yet to figure out a way to collect the items after auto-harvesting (without re-planting).  Stay tuned for updates to this minecraft construction.  Please let me know if you have figured out a way to collect the harvested items with reasonable efficiency.

Minecraft: 1.1 Patch made me play this weekend

Minecraft patch 1.1 patch came out on the 12th and it had me playing this weekend.  I backed up and updated my SMP server and got to work.  One of the biggest updates for me was that bows can be enchanted.  This had me fixing my spider spawner trap and getting my levels up so I could enchant some things.  They also fixed the sheep not regrowing wool.  It seems that I now can expand my barn and farmyard to include sheep of every color, so I can repeatedly clip them.  There were quite a few other updates and I will post a few below along with the link to the update notes.

Bows are now enchantable, with four new enchantments specific to bows: Power, Punch, Infinity, and Flame.
Sheep eat Grass (converting it to Dirt) and Tall Grass to regain their Wool.
Sheep only drop 1-3 wool per shearing.
Leaves now have a 1/200 chance of dropping Red Apples.

When I take a break from other games there is always Minecraft

When I’m done swinging my lightsaber in SWTOR or firing my bow in Skyrim, I always come back to Minecraft for some relax and building.  For me personally there just isn’t a game that is comparable in this aspect.  I just grab my pick and away I go.

Minecraft …. Are they going to fix the multiplayer issues?

Everytime I want to play on my server I get the error.  I follow Notch on twitter and he talks about working on new games and such but…..  Will this get fixed soon?

Minecraft Farming

I now have 2 primary structures where I visit often.  I have the first house that I made and a newer small castle structure.  I couldn’t help build a new farm at the castle, although smaller than the farm I have at my first house.  I just don’t like the idea of having to run back to my first house if I need something, even though it’s not that far (connected by portals).  I have seen plenty of vids where people have several houses and several farms.  How many and how large of farms do most people have in Minecraft?

Diamonds and Gold

Diamonds and GoldIt’s nice once in a while to find a rare mix of gems and ore.  I have only seen this once, and have been playing the game for quite some time now.  I’m eagerly waiting on patch 1.8 as most people are I’m sure.  I just hope they minimize the amount of rain on SMP….
